I don't think I've ever drawn Spider-Man outside of convention sketches before -- those are so chaotic and rushed I'm usually more worried about getting the costume right making a drawing that won't get me a sad fan face in response that I really don't get to do any thinking about what I'm drawing while I'm doing it.

Drawing this, I kept thinking about how much a genius Ditko is. Just the treatment of the fingers alone is brilliant costume design, but the mask and way the red sections wrap the form make for truly interesting shapes.
I always thought of this costume as annoying before really getting a chance to sit and take a few hours on it, but I actually enjoyed it.

I know what you mean about the costume. I still think it can be a bit of a pain sometimes, but it helps define his form.

Great work Rich.

It's nice to see Spidey pics that aren't all of him web-slingin everywhere. Guy's gotta take a breather sometime lol.

This may seem silly, but my favorite part of the whole thing is the wall. I love the way it's angled behind him, creating a dynamic feel of action, even though he's just "sitting" there.

But then again, that's why your the master... just kidding hahaha.

Cheers,

j

Heh-- the wall was the quickest thing to do.

I gotta show love to the basic perspective skills.

Sometimes it's the basics that can make or break a piece of art.

Honestly, who needs to know perspective an anatomy? lol

Well, technically he did have to know perspective to draw those rediculously oversized guns of his lol.
